BACK TO SCHOOL

Unfortunately, school has yet again started and will be backing me up in continuously uploading fashionable posts  that I have been wanting to write. Before I get back to homework, I wanted to give you the word of the day and  promise that an insight on fall fashion will be posted soon. promise.

Word of the day: King's Road
A "Street in London's Chelsea which has been the scene of many new trends in fashion since the proliferation of boutiques in the 1960's. The King's Road became the focus of fashion in the late 1970's when it was the favourite promenade of punks."

Every bit of fashion is apart of the greater world of art

These are my first oil paintings that I completed within five days of a John Carroll art intensive with Mr. Duane Sabiston. The camp was titled as the "Ish" workshop, because it was focused on teaching us the importance of light and its effects on color and the reflection of that in our work. So, here are the paintings that I did in the week :)

This is my first oil painting that I did of a chrome lipstick bottle. It was an experimentation with oil paints as a complete novice to the oil painting system. With that said, it is my favorite painting of mine to date because I love the atypical color pallet that luckily worked quite well. With a few lucky stroked and a lot of acting without thinking then analyzing the subconscious actions, I was able to turn out an oil painting this solitary tube of glamorous lipstick.

I did this oil painting of the three pool balls on the fourth day of the camp. From it I learned the complexity of painting a detailed, proportional, and polished sphere. I do not necessary like how finished background pool balls; however, I find the 3 ball quite striking. Therefore, I can accept that my painting draws the eye to the middle ball because it is brighter, complimentary to the table color, and just better painted.

This was my first self portrait ever and it is probably the painting that I gained the most self knowledge from going so far. The painting was started with the layout of the "hair hat" where the shape and look of my face was found structured through the painting of my hair. From there, the exploration began. Looking at the painting in an analytical position, I would say that my lips are too wide, my light casts seem to shape my face down to the left, and my eyes are too big; however, it holds my look and is a portrait that I appreciate as a beginning to my self portrait collection.

Word of the Day

Celia Birtwell- "1941-, Designer. Born in Bury, Lancashire, England. Birtwell studied textiles at Salford School of Art where she met her future husband, the designer Ossie Clark. She moved to London where she did a myraid of design jobs, however, it was her collaboration with Clark that gained her international attention. Birtwell's romantic witty prints combined with her husband's distinctive flowing houettes in soft jersey, crepe de chine, and chiffon, captured the spirit of the 1960's. Their clientèle numbered British royalty, pop star s and models. Birtwell was also the muse for her friend, artist David Hockney, who painted the iconic portrait Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy. In 1973, Birtwell, left Clark and their business and taught at various colleges, including Chelsea School of Art. She resumed designing in 1984, concentrating mainly on interiors and fabric design, and opened a shop in London. Birtwell's charming vision came back into fashion in 2006 when she successfully launched a Spring/Summer collection that cold through the high-street chain Topshop."

Sorry for the Absence

So sorry for being absent from the blog for a while! I have been in DC for the past week to attend the Maryland Youth Ballet's summer intensive. I've been so busy that I have not gotten the chance to even turn on my computer; however, I have been doing some other fashionable things while in the city. Such as: shopping at the glorious Nordstrom's rack, buying a waterproof off the shoulder sweatshirt, sporting my grandmother's pearls, and most importantly, buying a fashion dictionary from Barnes and Noble with my dog, Amos. Last night, I went to Bethesda with my fashionable aunt, whom I get my passion from, to eat dinner. Since the area is dog friendly, I brought my miniature Jack Russell, Amos. I felt quite posh strutting my little terrier along the store fronts and her felt that way too :)! Anyhow, we took him into Barnes and Noble where he rode his first escalator and I bought my first fashion dictionary. From now on, I will be having a fashion word of the day updated from my little handy fashion dictionary.

The word for today is: Fontana
Trom The Thames and Hudson Dictionary of Fashion and Fashion Designers the Second Edition, Fontana is an "Italian fashion house founded in Rome in 1943 by three sisters, Zoe, Micol, and Giovanna. In the 1950's the house of Fontana became known for its glamorous and theatrical clothing, particularly evening wear and lace wedding dresses. The house continues with a strong accessory line but it is always associated with its successful curvaceous styles of the 1950's and 1960's."

Chictopia.com

I now have 193 chicpoints, 3 friends, and 5 fans on chictopia.com! It's a lot like lookbook.nu but has more to than just uploading pictures of oneself. It's quite addicting actually, on the site you can answer discussion questions on fashion, upload pictures of your favorite runway looks, and even swap clothing with other chictopians. Plus, if you try hard like me and still can't get much hype and attention on lookbook.nu, then try this website too. For me, I got as much popularity as I have on lookbook.nu but in a quarter of the time. What a wonderful site.
Here's one of my looks that got the most comments and votes:
