Model of the Week

One of my all time favorite models is the established Australian model Abbey Lee Kershaw. Commonly referred to as "Abbey Lee," Kershaw is a 22 year old model that is known for her long, whimsical locks of hair, and her elegantly situated lips. The best thing about Abbey Lee is that she was discovered in a Girlfriend CoverGirl search in Austrailia while working in the bakery section of a Safeway, and now, Abbey Lee is in with the top high fashion models like Catherine McNeil and Freha Beja Ericcson. I also just read that Abbey Lee will be the compaign model for Chanel's ready-to-wear line this fall and winter. She always catches my eye as being one of the prettiest and delicate models that also has a jagged, fierce about her. This appearance seems to a look that designers jump on to fit into their shows. Take a look at this model ranked 8th on the Top 50 Models list:

Quelle Est La Tendance?

Sorry for my temporary absence from the site; I have had a very busy week. Anyhow, as spring brings in the new weather, a jet stream of fashion slips into the scene. Take a look at the new fashionable items and trends for spring and summer:

Tops- vintage blouses with highlights of lace.---try cream and white hues
---also add oversize boyfriend button-ups for an extra flowy layer
Bottoms-leather leggings and high-waisted, skinny "mom" jeans
Jackets- denim and leather moto jackets. The latest leather fashion is the light brown, camel colored look.
Shoes- clogs, wegdes, and bulky pumps. Look at the newest chanel clogs and Miu Miu pumps.
----be sure to try these shoes with delicate socks underneath
Bags- leather feedsacks
Accessories- long necklaces, hardcore jewelry with metal and studs is always in!
Socks- Over the knee, delicate socks.

The latest fashions remind me of dressing like some sort of fashionable doll. You could be a rag doll, a vintage doll, or just about any customized piece of porcelain.

Step Into Liquid

Actually step into a bathing suit, because bikini weather is right around the corner. For this season, I've noticed that retro is back and bathing suits that are made of a single shard of fabric aren't all the rage (even though you will always spot them on the beach). Try high-waisted bottoms with wired tops, or even a showy one piece. Once again, make people want to look at you, make them love what you wear, but also make them think about why they love it. The answer shouldn't always be because you're wearing close to nothing. Try these swimsuits

Bricklayer Head PieceLooking through Free People's summer catalog today, I saw a new trend of Grecian attire. Now the models aren't just wearing braided bands around their heads, but there is a second added band that wraps atop the head and meets with the original braid in the center of the forehead. It looks sort of like a very fashionable Grecian head brace or something. I am still wishy washy about the whole idea; however, the models pull it off very well. Check this out

Fashionable Listening

Music tends to build excitement within me when I find a great song, and fashion tends to equally excite me when I find a fresh piece to a new outfit. Therefore, here are some songs I've been listening to this week that have really pumped me up!

  2. Serve the Servants - Nirvana
  3. Pulling Up the Roots - The Talking Heads
  4. Blackswamp - m3thlaab
  5. Doe - The Breeders

  7. Deeo Six - Big Black
  8. The Drawback - Joy Division
  9. All This and More - The Dead Boys
  10. 03 03 03 03 Kiss Kiss - Yeah Yeah Yeahs

When I was in Florence last Friday, I felt fully immersed in European fashion. Walking through the cobblestone streets, I tried to walk low in profile as if to blend into the European environment. I honestly felt as if I looked very Euro that day, and I tried not to talk much as to not give away my American accent. It was quite fun to try to act Italian! Anyhow, at one point, a six foot tall, long brown haired girl in sunglasses strutted by me. There was no doubt that she was a model; her legs were so skinny and tall that they gapped as she walked. I just sat and observed the high fashion of Italy that this girl demonstrated in hopes to ingest some new ideas. I was most significantly intrigued by the girl's over the knee forest green socks that she wore with a pair of black motor cycle boots. The socks with the short tailored shorts that she wore attracted my attention as being very edgy. Therefore, along with the leather jacket, suede zip up, lace tank, and nude scarf that I physically brought back from Italy, I also accumulated some great new ideas to get a jump start on the fashion curve.

The Death of an Oxymoron

On February 12, 2010, Alexander McQueen was pronounced dead in his wardrobe. A wave of devastation came over me when I heard this, because I realized that I lost my idolized epitome of fashion. McQueen was the designer who despised the glamor and publicity of fashion, and rather confided in the sculpture and intricate art of designing clothing. Alexander, known as Lee by close friends, could care less about the fashion industry and hated getting photos taken to be put into magazines. Truly, Lee loved to have people leaving his fashion shows trembling and creeped out by what they had previously viewed. I think of it as scaring people into his clothing, because McQueen still proved to be greatly successful with his twist of apathy about what others thought. At shows, models would walk to the sound of crashing cars and insane asylums, or they could be living chess piece. In one show, models in breathtaking white dresses walked to the end of the runway and got drenched by car paint machines, making everyone a unique pattern. Another show was held in the dungeons where Marie Antoinette was held before being beheaded. Who would think of such things other than Alexander McQueen? Lee could easily design a collection in a day, but the remaining time was then used for the presentation of his master pieces. I appreciate more than any other designer, McQueen's ability to make terrifying presentations of beautiful clothing. The intensity of scariness brings out the gorgeous art within the looks. Lee, you will forever be remembered as the one who endured the fashion industry without a flying f of what the public thought. You redefined fashion for me.

"I don't really believe in flooding the market with loads of goods that don't mean much, and (you) lose your identity.”
- McQueen

His identity will never be lost
